January 2009 - EUROSTAG has been chosen as reference simulation platform for the ICOEUR R&D project

The ICOEUR project (Intelligent coordination of operation and emergency control of EU and Russian power grids) has been launched within the EU call FP7-ENERGY-2008-RUSSIA, FP7 Cooperation Work Programme: Theme 5 Energy.

22 partners from renown European and Russian universities, R&D centres and companies are working together to study new concepts for the coordination of the operation and emergency control of the European-Russian electrical power systems connected via synchronous or asynchronous interconnection.
EUROSTAG is used by all the partners to test and benchmark:

  • The optimal choice of network interconnection and extension technologies (e.g. HVDC SVC vs HVDC SSC…)
  • The effective control and monitoring systems and strategies (e.g. WAMPAC, PMU…) as well as
  • The new protection functions and concepts that ensure secure operation of all partner networks in critical cases (e.g. SPSs…)

EUROSTAG has been chosen for its modeling flexibility, speed of simulation and quality of results. It is an important confirmation of the international appreciation of EUROSTAG as powerful tool for research and development on large power system.
