11th EUROSTAG User's Club

The 11th EUROSTAG User’s Club was organized in Lille, France on Friday 27/11/2015. The User’s Club was hosted by the “Ecole National Supérieure des Arts et Métiers” (ENSAM).

We were very honoured and thankful to have Professor István Erlich as honorary guest. He provided an enlightening and insightful presentation on the

current evolutions within the power system sector, especially regarding the new dynamic phenomena having been introduced by the massive integration of power electronics-based users in some regions of Western Europe. This keynote lecture laid the foundations for the rest of the day’s presentations.

The User’s Club was followed by presentations relating to advanced Eurostag functionalities such as the user-defined modelling of superconductive fault current limiters, network model dynamic reduction

and the description of the detailed conversion between external and internal parameters of the synchronous machine model implemented in EUROSTAG.

It also included some presentations of interesting and complex projects such as iTesla in which millions of complex European-wide dynamic simulations

have been performed with EUROSTAG to answer to the problematic of planning and operation of power systems in the midst of increasingly uncertain operating conditions.

A very nice lunch was organized in between morning and evening sessions with plenty of interesting technical discussions.

It was followed by an impressive visit of the L2EP electro-technical lab of the ENSAM university. Professor Xavier Guillaud, along with staff from his research team, walked us through their lab-scale emulation of a multi-terminal HVDC grid.

The afternoon session was dedicated to the presentation and illustration of the many new functionalities available with the new 5.2 release and followed by a highly interactive

discussion on new trends and new needs for EUROSTAG functionalities in order to keep up with the sector’s evolution and the ensuing user’s needs.

The User’s Club was a success in getting users to share knowledge and exchange on topics related to dynamic simulation and EUROSTAG in particular but also on broader power system topics among experts in the power systems field.
